Dramas to watch in Korean

1. “Itaewon Class” (์ดํƒœ์› ํด๋ผ์“ฐ) Watch it on: Netflix Park Sae-ro-yi, who has just started going to a new high school, intervenes when he notices Jang Geun-won, the wealthy son of his father’s employer, bullying another student. This sets off a wild chain of unforeseen events involving death, prison, a new restaurant opening, and romance. As you might guess from the name, “Itaewon Class” takes place in the Seoul neighborhood of Itaewon, which is known for its multi-cultural, international, and generally open atmosphere. The show is notable for featuring a more diverse grouping in its main cast than is usual for a Korean drama, including a biracial character and a transgender character. Park Sae-ro-yi opens a bar-restaurant in Itaewon, so you’ll hear some language in the show related to food and the restaurant business, but as a learning tool, “Itaewon Class” might be best for picking up smaller bits of everyday language. 2. “My ID Is Gangnam Beauty” (๋‚ด ์•„์ด๋””๋Š” ๊ฐ•๋‚จ๋ฏธ์ธ) Watch it on: Viki | DVD ...

Is ใ„น pronounced as L or R?

This is probably one of the most common questions that beginners ask when learning ํ•œ๊ธ€. Just like every beginner learners, I went through this as well which is why I decided to study pronunciation rules too. I created this post to help clear up any confusion. When ใ„น is located at the beginning of a word, it sounds more like an R. Example: ๋ผ๋””์˜ค (ra-di-o), ๋ ˆ์Šจ (re-seun), ๋กœ๋งจํ‹ฑ (ro-man-tik) When ใ„น is located between two vowels, it sounds like an R. Example: ๋‹ค๋ฆฌ (da-ri), ์‚ฌ๋ž‘ (sa-rang), ์–ด๋ ต๋‹ค (eo-ryeob-dda), ๋ชจ๋ฅด๋‹ค (mo-reu-da), ๋…ธ๋ ฅ (no-ryeok), ๋งค๋ ฅ (mae-ryeok) When ใ„น is located at the end of a word, it’s pronounced more like an L. Example: ๋”ธ (ddal), ์•„๋“ค (a-deul), ์›” (weol), ๋‹ฌ (dal), ์นผ (khal), ์—ฐํ•„ (yeon-pil), ๊ต์‹ค (gyo-sil) When ใ„น is followed by a consonant or followed by another ใ„น, it sounds like L. Example: ๋”ธ๊ธฐ (ddal-gi), ํž˜๋“ค๋‹ค (him-deul-da), ๋ชฐ๋ผ (mol-la), ์‚ด์ž (sal-ja), ๊ณ ๋ฆด๋ผ (go-ril-la) When ใ„น comes after any consonant except ใ„ด, ใ„น is pronounced as N. Example: ์ƒ๋ฆฌ (saeng-ni), ๊ตญ๋ฆฝ (gung-nip), ๋Šฅ๋ ฅ (neung-nyeok) When ใ„น co...
